Water Filters
 

I know this has probably come up several times but please indulge me if I ask again. What are the major brands of water filters? I have heard of Berkley and Aquarain. Are there any other brands that people would recommend looking at?

Also I am interested in a more portable unit. I have seen a model by Katadyn. Any other portable units that people would recommend looking at?

For a portable katadyn makes a good product. They make a great desalinator too.

Have had problems with all these clogging up just when needed.These work well with pre-filtered water only.

I carried my little portable in a cloth filter bag way back when, and if I was filtering water with any suspended particles, would strain the water thru the cloth filter bag first.

Letting your water settle for 24 hours before filtering helps but the defeats the needs of most portable filters or desalinators. You will need to clean the filter surface constantly.... but like all life support gear ... learn to maintain and repair with obsession.
